Wonder weeks are developmental ‘Leaps’ the baby goes through. During these leaps, the baby will be more fussy, clingy, restless. Which has already explained alot of Roman’s recent behaviors. Because right around 8 weeks, he began to cry alot more and not want to be put down. Just wanted to be held all the time. Ever heard of Wonder Weeks? Read about it!
“These are periods in which baby is putting so much energy into learning new skills that she starts feeling out of sorts. Wonder Weeks take place at week 5, 8, 12, 19, 26, 37, 46, 55, 65 and 75 and the “stormy”, or fussy periods can last anywhere from a few days to 6 weeks (in the later periods) and are followed by some clear developmental leaps. It’s great knowing what drives the change in behavior – otherwise known as the 3 Cs: clinginess, crankiness, and crying – during the Wonder Weeks but what’s even cooler is witnessing baby’s leaps afterwards!!” – whosthatmom.com
Current Leap (Wonder Week 8)
The World of Patterns: Roman starts to recognize patterns using all senses. He starts to distinguish himself from the world around him. This is a huge paradigm shift.
Demands more attention; Increased crying; Is clingy; Increased appetite; Sucks hands
Engage his senses with bright colors and different sounds
Extremely clingy and fussy during day; Slightly increased appetite some days; Sucking on hands
“Once they have taken one of these big steps in their development, they may have times when they are less demanding. These times have been called ‘sunny’ times.” – Parenting And Child Health
When the baby has fully ‘climbed’ this developmental step, there may be several weeks when she is happier. She can happily try out her new skills. She may be less easily upset (less temperamental). She may allow you to be out of sight more often, and go off to sleep more easily.
It has been interesting reading about all this. Roman is still in Wonder Week 8 and I don’t think he has reached his Sunny Weeks yet. He just got vaccinated on 6/1/15, so he has had a bit of a fever and sleeping more.
We also started putting him in his crib at night. We swaddle him, yes, still, He sleeps much deeper. And we will swaddle him until he can roll over. So the next Wonder Week we get to look forward to is at 12 weeks. Until then, looking forward to those awesome developmental leaps and bounds and the Sunny Days 🙂
